The Underwriting Manager coordinates all aspects of underwriting and managing underwriting risk for the entire company including the credit quality and underwriting culture for the organization. The position will entail the communication and implementation of credit policy and practices at the corporate level and throughout various Underwriting centers while providing guidance for policies, procedures, guidelines, and risk assessment. Review of delegated credit signature authority including Credit Analyst, and AUS certified underwriters. The position will require a partnership with sales and operations and provide communication of all credit policy updates. Advise VP of Operations of any issues and trends. This person must have a minimum of 10 years in the mortgage industry, and have a thorough understanding of conventional, jumbo, super jumbo, FNMA/FHLMC, CRA, government, FHA/VA guidelines. Demonstrate a working knowledge of agency AUS systems, and possess a management background.
NOTE: This position requires 15-20% travel
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Identifies and measures risks associated with products and services offered by the Company and advises management on the development of policy, procedures, systems, controls and training to address those risks.
• Communicates changes in underwriting policies and procedures.
• Prepares reports that include degree of risk involved in extending credit or lending money.
• Recommends methods to control or reduce underwriting risk.
• Plans, directs, and coordinates the underwriting activities of the Corporate Office, and all branch offices ensuring that all are in sync with Company underwriting philosophy and guidelines.
• Monitors and reports progress towards completion of goals and objectives.
• Responsible for the direct supervision of the Underwriting Supervisor.
• Conducts performance reviews.
• Participates in staff recognition and discipline.
Qualifications:
• Detailed knowledge of underwriting, investor and agency guidelines, including HUD, VA, and Fannie Mae.
• Knowledge of potential misrepresentations and red flags to prevent fraud and mitigate risk to the corporation.
• Ability to plan, prioritize and manage projects from inception through implementation.
• Recent experience managing department staff.
• Strong teambuilding, interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Education and/or Experience:

• Underwrite a minimum (3) loans per day.
